On October fourteenth eighteen sixty one I left the farm where I had been born and raised with the intention of enlisting in the Confederate Army. I was just a boy who, like many of my contemporaries, thought the war would be over in months rather than years. It wasn’t too long before I got a taste of what the realities of a war between the states would really mean for hundreds of thousands of soldiers, civilians and women and children on both sides who lived through probably, the bloodiest and most horrific period to happen on American soil. From a naive boy when I made my way to enlist, I grew quickly into a man who learned from experience, that you either killed without question or compunction and lived, or hesitated at the almost, certain risk to your own life. Although I was involved in many bloody skirmishes and battles during that four year period, I only mention my involvement in the war to set the scene for what was to follow. For it was the years after the war when I travelled the great plains of the west taking in the many lawless and wild towns to be found in that part of America including the state of Missouri, where I grew up; to Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Wyoming, Colorado and Arizona in my quest to avenge the slaying and defiling of my family in the most horrific and violent way I could ever have imagined in my worst nightmares. This story covers a period of many years and besides the hunt for my family’s killers. It tells of the men, women and children who entered my life during that period, none more so than Chameli Gonzales who was without a doubt, the most irritating, hateful, aggravating, troublesome, self-centred, greedy and disturbing person I have ever had the misfortune to meet. Yet, she was also, the most beautiful, endearing and amazing woman ever to have been born to enrich my life and despite my better judgement and against all my instincts for self-preservation, I grew to love her more than life itself.

Powerful this book took my breath away. I laughed and cried. I was appalled by the violence yet longed for the kind of loved shared by the main characters. a real page Turner. please don't pass up this book. it rocked my world more than any story I have ever read. Book lover.

A truly remarkable story of an old man who tells his life story to a writer. It is horrific as well as majestic as it covers a period of just after the civil war to his telling time of 1933. The novel is well worth your time and has a way of blending you into the story. Enjoy your ride.

Finally found a book the equal to Lonesome Dove.Truly a great book. Will look for more fromThis author. Would recommend to anyone.Robert

This guy has a good heart, but life takes him on paths he wish he had not gone, other choices he makes on his own. I enjoyed the story a whole lot. It was hard to put down, and looking forward to more in the series soon. Action packed, and never dull. I thank you for this Kindle book.
As good a story as Lonesome Dove. I love the narrative and there was never a boring moment. Can't wait to read more from this author.

After going to internet to see what other books Mr. Coleman had written, I intend to read all of them.I found the characters and time period spot on, was evident that much research had been done from the historical point of view.
